Temple Newsam is a large public park of over 1500 acres that was formerly part of a privately owned stately home and estate. It was sold to Leeds City Council for a nominal sum in 1922 with a covenant to ensure it is maintained for the public.
The land is a mixture of wooded areas and open parkland. The new wood planted for the Millennium is on the north eastern edge of the park and there are public footpaths through it and alongside it.
Access to the park and car parking is free, but there is a charge to visit the house.
