Saints Peter and Paul's replaces a chapel built on Carey's Lane in 1786. The church was designed in the Gothic Revival style by the architectural partnership of E. W. Pugin, son of Augustus Pugin. The cornerstone was laid on August 15, 1859 and the church was completed on June 29, 1864. The Church was dedicated two years later on June 29, 1866. The church has a major renovation in the 1980s. (

The church is built on the apex of a curve Carey's Lane. The main block has a set of steps leading up to an elaborate entrance inset within a Gothic arch. Above the entrance is a large Gothic stained glass window with elaborate tracery and 10 tall windows below and three circular windows above. A circular window is below the apex of the gable roof.
To the south of the main entrance rises a is a tall square tower topped by a pyramidal roof and a cross. The the south of the tower is a slanted roof over a large Gothic window. At the south end is a pinnacle. The south side has four projecting gables with Gothic windows.
The north side of the main block has a Gothic entrance at the base of a square belfry tower. The second level has a pair of Gothic windows. Below the pyramidal the roof are three louvered Gothic windows on each side.
