The Badger Four Wheel Drive Automobile Company was established in Wisconsin in 1909. The name was changed to Four Wheel Drive (FWD) Automobile Company in 1910. The company had offices in Clintonville, WI, Richmond VA and in Ontario.

By 1912 the company was experimenting with vehicles to replace horse-drawn wagons in the US army.

The advent of the First World War saw the emergence of the FWD as a battlefield carrier.

The FWD on display was built in Clintonville, WI. It is in the livery of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
