This pink granite marker was erected by the State of Texas in 1936 at the grave of David Thomas, who died of an accidental wound at the home of Lorenzo de Zavala. De Zavala drafted and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence, served as the first Vice President of the Republic of Texas and is buried nearby in this cemetery on the San Jacinto Battlefield Park.
David Thomas was also a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, and served as the first Attorney General of the Republic of Texas. He is buried a few feet away from his friend, Lorenzo De Zavala.
