[Loweswater is a quiet beauty spot that is] "largely ignored by visiting tourists, and therefore popular amongst locals seeking a secluded walking area with an undeniable natural beauty. The lake is owned by the National Trust and row boats can be hired from Watergate Farm located at the southern end of the lake.
There are no facilities at the lake, but in the nearby village of Loweswater you will find the Kirkstile Inn, a local’s favourite that serves classic pub grub and locally brewed ales.
Loweswater is an excellent choice if you want to do a circuit walk around a lake. The road that runs alongside the north-east side is very quiet and you are unlikely to come across many cars. A path runs along the south-west side and connects to the road at both ends, so you can start your route at either car parking point.
The circuit is around 4 miles in length. Alternatively, if you park at Maggie’s Bridge you can follow the lake shore path into Holme Wood where there are a number of accessible trails and you may spot Red Squirrels."
