To reach the azimuth mark from triangulation station MIDWEST, hike south along the western rim of the butte for 0.20 miles (not quite the quarter mile distance that is described in the data sheet, but I guess that if you're rounding up it works out...). The description does not lie when it says the azimuth mark is "on edge of rim" (1934 description) or "on edge of bluff" (1938 recovery) - the azimuth mark is a little over a foot away from a massive drop off of the edge of the butte. That being said, please be very mindful of the cliff when visiting this marker and don't put yourself in a position of unnecessary risk. To reach the marker itself requires some easy scrambling over the sandstone boulders that make up the edge of the butte. The disk is set flush with the top of the southernmost sandstone boulder on the butte.
