Miami Municipal Airport opened in December 1937 to serve the growing needs of air transport. In summer 1941 the airport was used to train British pilots as part of the Lend-Lease program, and a year later was used to train U.S. pilots. The facilities have shifted west; there is a cluster of old hangars on the east side of the present-day airport. The airport office is worth a visit; it is a miniature aviation musuem. This air navigation beacon (green-white) operates from dusk to dawn.
