Tolmount, at 958 metres, 3143 feet, is a Scottish Munro that sits in the middle of other mountains in the Grampians on the Mounth plateau. It rises to the south of the deep cleft at the head of Glen Callater, where there is a steep craggy drop to the north-west. The mountain summit is stony, with a small cairn marking the top. It is linked to the neighbouring mountain tops of Cairn of Claise to the west, and Tom Buidhe to the south by high cols. The summit straddles the borders of the counties of Angus and Aberdeenshire.

STEEPNESS: Moderate slopes on all sides except for the craggy, steep north and west sides.

TERRAIN: Mostly grass, with stones and rocks on the summit area.

ACCESSIBILITY: The summit lies on the watershed of the Mounth plateau some five miles from the access points of Glen Doll to the south-east, and Auchallater on the A93 south of Braemar to the north-west. Glen Shee to the west is closer, but has to cross other mountains to reach the summit. The pass of Jock's Road from Glen Doll to Braemar passes less than a mile to the east of the summit.

NAVIGATION: Jock's Road is the easiest route to the summit and from here it is an easy climb up the eastern slope after coming up from Glen Doll of Auchallater. From the neighbouring mountain of Tom Buidhe to the south, which is only a metre less in height, it requires a route down north-west, then up Tolmount's south-west slope.

DANGER: In mist stay away from the crags to the north and west.

Altitude in Feet: 3143
