This large rest area is between the lanes and serves both eastbound and westbound traffic. There are facilities for both directions, and you can walk up (and back down) the hill if you think the grass is greener on the other side. There are several plaques, memorials, and historical markers here, and a short trail leads up to the Guard of the Plains sculpture.
