The character of the brilliant detective, introduced to the pantheon of immortal literary characters by Arthur Conan Doyle, has appeared in the works of many other authors. One of them was Ilja Hurník, a writer who often reflected on his profession as a composer and music educator in his texts. A quartet of short stories inspired a detective comedy that was directed by Štepán Skalský in 1971. The film, for which Hurník himself collaborated on the screenplay, departs from the detective's decision to abandon his previous professions and focus exclusively on playing the violin. Fortunately, the not very musically talented Holmes still encounters crimes in his new environment, which engage his tireless analytical mind. As a detective story, Skalský's comedy may not hold up, but it entertains as a playful diversion, particularly due to the comedic chemistry between Radovan Lukavský and Václav Voska in the roles of Sherlock and Dr. Watson.

Jedním z nich byl i Ilja Hurník, spisovatel, který ve svých textech casto zhodnocoval svou profesi hudebního skladatele a pedagoga. Ctverice povídek se stala inspirací pro detektivní komedii, kterou v roce 1971 natocil Štepán Skalský. Film, na jehož scénári spolupracoval sám Hurník, se odpichuje od detektivova rozhodnutí nechat dosavadní profese a venovat se výlucne hre na housle. Nepríliš hudebne talentovaný Holmes naštestí i v novém prostredí naráží na zlociny, které zamestnávají jeho neúnavnou analytickou mysl… Coby detektivka Skalského komedie neobstojí, pobaví však jako zábavná hrícka predevším díky hereckému souznení Radovana Lukavského a Václava Vosky v rolích Sherlocka a doktora Watsona.
