The fortification set of Barzan Towers was built by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani in the late 19th century but it is likely that previous towers existed on the sport well before that.

There are three towers, plus a mosque and a support building on the fortification. The purpose of the fort was to protect the nearby 'rawdat'- a valley rich in potable water.

The complex was renovated in 2003.
