Virginia E. Randolph (June 6, 1874 - March 16, 1958) was a leader for black southern education in traditional subjects and vocational skills. Henrico County renamed Mountain Road School of Glen Allen, Virginia, in her honor. She is buried in front of the eponymous
Virginia Randolph Museum there. The single plot is about 35 feet southwest of the small brick building, originally constructed as the Virginia Cardwell Cottage to house home economic classes for the Virginia E. Randolph Training School. Bordered by red bricks and a low railing, a headstone reads:
VIRGINIA ESTELLE RANDOLPH
1874 - 1958
SHE HELPED PEOPLE OF ALL RACES.
A PIONEER EDUCATOR,
A HUMANITARIAN. AND A
CREATIVE LEADER IN THE FIELD
OF EDUCATION. HER INFLUENCE
THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
WILL CONTINUE TO LIVE.
