Montélimar is a French city located in the Drôme department and the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (formerly the Rhône-Alpes region). Its inhabitants are called Montiliens and Montiliennes.
The commune covers 46.8 km² and has 39,818 inhabitants since the last population census. With a density of 850.6 inhabitants per km², Montélimar has seen a net increase of 29.2% in its population compared to 1999.

Située au sud de Valence, Montélimar est une accueillante cité de la Drôme provençale. Étape mythique de la Route Nationale 7, la ville est réputée pour son nougat dont elle est la capitale incontestée.
Riche de son passé historique, Montélimar possède un beau patrimoine bâti représenté par son monument phare : le château des Adhémar. Édifié en haut d'une colline, il domine la ville et offre un magnifique panorama sur la campagne environnante. Ancien palais médiéval, son architecture romane méridionale remonte au XIIe siècle. De beaux vestiges de son passé subsistent de nos jours comme une enceinte fortifiée surmontée d'un chemin de ronde, un logis seigneurial, une chapelle et un donjon. À la fin du XVIe siècle, il devient une citadelle bastionnée puis une prison jusqu'en 1926. Aujourd'hui, c'est un centre d'art contemporain qui abrite des expositions temporaires. Au pied du château, un parc arboré permet de profiter pleinement de sa splendeur et de faire une agréable promenade.
Continuez votre visite de Montélimar en flânant dans les rues piétonnes de son centre historique et commerçant. D'anciens hôtels particuliers sont encore présents, comme la maison de Diane de Poitiers de style Renaissance, datée des XVe et XVIe siècles. Mais aussi l'hôtel du Puy-Montbrun du XVIIe siècle et l'hôtel de Chabrillan du XVIIIe. En pierre de taille, la porte Saint-Martin est l'un des derniers vestiges des remparts. Reconstruite au XVIIIe siècle, la collégiale Sainte-Croix a quant à elle conservé son clocher et son chœur du XVIe. Autour de l'église, profitez des rues commerçantes et des places ponctuées de terrasses pour vous imprégner de l'ambiance animée de la ville !
Autre lieu emblématique de Montélimar, les allées provençales, plantées de platanes et jalonnées de cafés, qui bordent un agréable jardin public. Rich of its historical past, Montélimar has a beautiful built heritage represented by its flagship monument: the Adhemar castle. Built on top of a hill, it dominates the city and offers a magnificent panorama on the surrounding countryside. A former medieval palace, its southern Romanesque architecture dates back to the 12th century. Beautiful vestiges of its past remain today such as a fortified enclosure surmounted by a covered way, a seigneurial dwelling, a chapel and a keep. At the end of the 16th century, it became a bastioned citadel and then a prison until 1926. Today, it is a contemporary art center that houses temporary exhibitions. At the foot of the castle, a wooded park allows you to fully enjoy its splendor and to take a pleasant walk.
Continue your visit of Montélimar by strolling through the pedestrian streets of its historical and commercial center. Some old private mansions are still present, such as the house of Diane de Poitiers of Renaissance style, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries. But also the hotel of Puy-Montbrun from the 17th century and the hotel of Chabrillan from the 18th century. The Saint-Martin gate is one of the last vestiges of the ramparts. Rebuilt in the 18th century, the Sainte-Croix collegiate church has kept its bell tower and its 16th century choir. Around the church, take advantage of the shopping streets and squares dotted with terraces to soak up the lively atmosphere of the city!
Another emblematic place of Montélimar, the Provencal alleys, planted with plane trees and lined with cafés, which border a pleasant public garden. Popular with children, this vast park with century-old trees is home to a small farm, a large pond with ducks, a playground, and a wooden horse riding school.
