The Gladstone Maritime Museum contains multiple models of all kinds of ships, however this one is a little special. This is because outside and dry-docked is the real version of this ship. If for some reason you don't take the tour of the ship, this model is great to get and idea of what the ship is like. Please don't confuse it with the HMAS Gladstone I, which is a totally different ship built about 50 years before this one.
I would assume that the replica was built so that people could see this ship without having to get in a helicopter. The replica was built by Ernie Pitts, who works for the maritime museum and was making a model as we had a look in the museum.
More information about the HMAS Gladstone II can be found below.
There is also a waymark for the ship itself, so if you visit the ship (which you should) then make sure to log that waymark.
There is a cost to enter the Gladstone Maritime Museum, which can be found on their website.
When you observe the model, you may notice something a photo of someone inside a porthole. Although it is not required, it would be awesome if you could attach a unique picture of the person inside the porthole. I don't exactly know who this is, but if I find out I will update the description. It has been confirmed however that the photo is not of the model builder.
