Calvin J. Howard was a Woodman of the World and an International Odd Fellow. He is mentioned by name on the nearby Texas Historical Marker as one of the IOOF Trustees who purchased this land for use as a cemetery. Howard was just a few days shy of his forty-sixth birthday at his death. His Woodman of the World grave marker is styled as a vertical tree stump with cut branches, set on a square base bearing the family name.
