Anglican church of All Saints, Cockermouth.
All Saints is the ancient parish church of Cockermouth, the site dating back to at least the 13th century.
"The present building dates from 1854, having been rebuilt after a fire.
Of particular note is the stained glass, with the East Window dedicated to the memory of William Wordsworth. He, and his sister Dorothy, were baptized in the previous church to have stood on the same site. In the closed church yard there are headstones in memory of John Wordsworth (William's father) and Fearon Fallows (Astronomer Royal).
Our worship is fairly traditional in style, but we are known for our informality and friendly welcome. Not to mention our cake, which often follows our morning service! Children have their own activity on the 4th Sunday of the month.
Currently, we are reviewing our mission and envisage a major building project which would reflect our intention of making the building available for a wide variety of uses from small-group meetings to concerts and exhibitions."

"All Saints Church has a long history. In 1395 Henry Percy endowed a church here, said to have been ‘the most ancient and beautiful specimen of Gothic architecture in the North of England’. This was replaced in 1711 by a plain building. This burned down in 1850, and a third church was built in the Early English style.
The Church was dedicated in 1854, and the Bible and Prayer Book placed in the Church on that occasion are still preserved and on display. The groined ceiling and the Caen stone pulpit are worth noting.
The spire reaches a height of 180 feet and has some particularly splendid carving of the capitals of the pillars. The Church has some fine Victorian stained glass, the west window (1897) by Charles Kempe, and the east window (1853) [above] by John Hardman as a memorial window to William Wordsworth, who was baptised here, and whose father John is buried in the churchyard."
