Une première chapelle fut édifiée par des marins en 1854, et dédiée à la Vierge Marie.
Elle fut détruite par l'occupant allemand en 1942.
Ce n'est qu'après sa reconstruction en 1950, qu’elle fut rebaptisée sous son nom actuel de "Notre Dame de la Garde". Elle fut bénie par Monseigneur Martin, alors archevêque de Rouen.
De style architectural néo-gothique, sa principale caractéristique est sa nef en forme de carène. La charpente doublée de frise rappelle un milieu bien familier aux marins.
La base du clocher est faite de pierres tandis que la flèche elle-même est en acier et est surmontée d'une croix. La tour ajoute à l'élégance de la chapelle.
