The time capsule was part of a city program named "The wise city" and buried on August 30th in 2003 on the Akseltorv in front of the town hall of Kolding. The program was started in 2003 to figure out how people would find a city more lifeworthy.

Above the buried capsule a block of granite was placed that bears following inscription:

The capsule was placed for fifteen years and finally was opened on August 30th in 2018 by mayor Jørn Pedersen and project leader Carsten Borch. Unfortunatly the selected container was not sealed well enough and thus water and mud entered the box. From the various items that were placed by randomly selected inhabitants of Kolding in the box only a DVD with clips recorded by the citizens, a sealed article of the weekly newspaper and a ticket for a festival survived nearly undamaged. The remaining content was given to the Kolding archives for restauration.

The capstone with the inscription was placed back at its original position to commemorate the project.
