The congregation of the present Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1885 as the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church. The symmetrically designed Gothic Revival style church was built in 1903. In 1924, the church was renamed as the First Lutheran Church. A merger with the Reformation Lutheran Church in 1974, led to the present name - The First Lutheran Church of the Reformation.
The church has a pair of four stage towers flanking a central block with a gable roof. A set of steps leads up to a central double door entrance framed within a Gothic arch. Above the arch is a ornate pinnacle. Above is a large rose stained glass window. The apex of the roof has a cross.
The front of the towers have smaller double door entrances framed within a Gothic arches. The next two stages have one Gothic stained glass window. At the top is a belfry with two Gothic louvered windows . Pinnacles rise from the corners of the tower and three small pinnacles are in the center of the roof-line. The sides have Gothic windows replace the doorway.
The sides have three large stained glass windows framed by Gothic arches followed by a protruding transepts with a gable ends that have with two Gothic windows below and a circular window above. Beyond are two more Gothic windows.
