The War Memorial Bell Tower has a black marble tablet that outlines the history of the Christ Church building, as follows:
* Christ Church and The Great War *
"The first proposal for the construction of Christ Church dates back to 1899.
"Twenty years later, in April 1919, a few months after the Armistice was signed, a large meeting of parishioners resolved unanimously that the Building Committee should proceed at once with the building of the new church 'to honour of God and as a thank offering for peace'. The church was to be built as a tribute to all who volunteered and served their country. Above all, it was to be a symbol of peace to the citizens of this town and a sign of thanksgiving to God that the past conflict would be 'the war to end all wars'.
"In late 1919, the architect was authorised to commence construction of the Church and Tower, as funds permitted, using local workers. The Church was completed in 1926 and dedicated in February 1927 with the first bell lifted into the Tower in 1935." [ex-marble tablet in Bell Tower]
A plaque set into the pavers at the intersection of Maryborough and Woongarra Streets (next to the War Memorial Cross) is sponsored by the West Bundaberg Rotary Club, and has the following inscription:
Historic Site: The Anglican Church of Australia Christ Church Bundaberg; Erected 1926.
"The first Anglican Church built in Bundaberg was a wooden structure facing Quay Street. The 1 acre site was land donated by the Honorable Alfred N. Brown of Gingin. The church which cost £356 to build was opened by Bishop Hale on June 4th 1876. The building was moved to this site in 1899. Diocesan Architect, Mr J.H. Buckeridge designed this present church in 1899 - exterior design English Gothic.
"The Foundation Stone was laid on 8th August 1920 by Right Reverend Bishop Le Fanu, Construction Architect Mr F.H. Faircloth, Construction Foreman Mr N.C. Stefensen. Cost £20,000 - Completed 1926. Mr G.A. Stronach completed the building after the death of Mr F.H. Faircloth in 1925. Officially opened and dedicated by Archbishop Sharp on Sunday 20th February 1927. Consecrated by Archbishop Ward on 23rd February 1936.
"To the Glory of God and Christian worship in the Anglican faith."
The Church has two Lychgates, with the main one on Woongarra Street, and the 'Exit' one on Maryborough Street facing St Andrews Church.
The Bell Tower was dedicated for Peace in November 2018, and started with on bell (745kg) installed in 1935, with FIVE more bells installed in 2018 as a centenary memorial of Armistice as the Peace Bells.
