"1917 A newly constructed bridge across the Santa Ynez River creates a connection on the Coast High-way (later numbered Highway 101) leading to a new town.

1918-1920 A flurry of new construction along the Coast Highway & the "Missions Highway" brings service stations, motor courts and diners in anticipation of the flow of automobiles along the coast of California. The town of "Buellton" comes to life.

1930's As the 1930's dawn in Buellton, the Coast Highway is dotted with service stations interspersed with diners and a few small motels or "motor courts". The already famous diner is "Andersen's, Home of Split Pea Soup", but others soon join in to compete with success.

1948-1949 The Town Of Buellton experiences a massive remodel as the now numbered Highway 101 is widened through the middle of the town to allow for the faster flow of "modern" cars. Many buildings along the old two-lane road are moved or cut back to allow room for the new lanes. "Skinners Cafe" loses its original facade but remains as a restaurant with many names and owners over the next 40 + years.

1985 John Oltman moved Ellen's Pancake House from Solvang to Buellton and the rest is "history". This once service station turned cafe now serves thousands of pancakes and food to generations of hungry travelers and locals alike!
