February 1910 was when my great-grandfather Elias Bryan opened the family's first barbecue restaurant in Oak Cliff. A generation later the tradition continued with Great Uncle Red Bryan and Grandmother Harris.
The third generation proprietors, Cousin Sonny and my father David Bryan Harris added their names to our family barbecuing business.
Now I, Jimmy Harris, am the fourth generation to continue our fine family tradition.
David Bryan Harris opened Red Bryan's Barbecue in 1965 on North Collins Street in Arlington. In 1988, after a three year sabbatical, our family tradition reopened as David's Barbecue on West Park Row in Pantego. When dad was elected as Constable Precinct 2, I purchased the business and became the sole proprietor in 1992.

Closed Sunday and Monday, they are open every other day of the week from 11 AM to 8 PM. This is an older building with an old time rustic "joint" character to it, with plenty of seating. Take a look to see how many of the celebrities you know from the autographed photos they put on the wall after they visited. It's cafeteria style here, so you'll order your barbecue at the counter where the friendly gentleman will point you towards anything else you might like farther up the line. They're proud of their fried okra, and here's your opportunity to have them whip up a fresh batch for you. For your main course, you can order by the pound -- brisket (sliced or chopped), pork ribs, ham, sausage, or turkey -- or you can have a sandwich or dinner plate, mixing it up with two meats on the plate if that's your preference. They're best known for their pork ribs and chopped brisket. If you like sauce, they keep it behind the counter in a warmer, and will hand you a fresh bottle on request.
The "budget" option is a sausage or turkey sandwich for $7.50. Since you may order by the pound, the sky's the limit if you want to "pig out," but a two meat plate with two sides will fill you up for $17.95. Besides the fried okra, you can choose from barbecue beans, slaw, potato salad, fries, and onion rings. In addition to what's in the self-serve soft drink dispenser you can also get iced tea or lemonade, and they have a small beer selection. If you plan to have room after your meal, they have soft serve ice cream, fried pies, and banana pudding.
They have a drive thru window if you're in a hurry, but frankly, the counter service is fast, and they're well known for being friendly.
