After WWII, the nation's construction boom responded to high demand and Davis Shores. Housing of this period contrasted with Davis' original Mediterranean-inspired vision. Buildings were mostly single-story block houses in either a sprawling Ranch or compact Minimal Traditional style. The buildings from the D.P. Davis and post WWII eras, along with original street layouts contribute to the historical nature of current Davis Shores.
These resources are vulnerable to flooding as witnessed with hurricanes and tidal flooding events. Future development with flood mitigation in mind will contribute to the next historic chapter of Davis Shores.
In 1924 D.P. Davis initiated efforts to develop the north end of Anastasia Island, then largely marsh and sea.
To create land, workers dredged and placed 13 million cubic feet of fill. Only ten houses were completed by 1926 when Florida’s land-boom bust halted development, however the curving street netwerk laid out for the planned community established a blueprint for its future.
