Translation: The Business News' article reads: "Several posts, relayed by extremist pages, calling for the conversion of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul's cathedral in Tunis into a mosque, are circulating on the web, probably motivated by the recent decision of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who announced on July 10 the transformation of the former Hagia Sophia in Istanbul into a mosque.

These calls praised the Turkish model, where President Erdogan is set up as an "Ottoman leader defender of Islamic values" while Turkey's decision has been widely contested by many countries but also and above all by Unesco which expressed serious concerns about such a maneuver initiated without "prior dialogue".

The Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Cathedral in Tunis, let us remember, has been the property of the Catholic Church since 1964. Masses and baptisms are still celebrated there today, as well as all Christian religious holidays. It also houses the seat of the Archdiocese of Tunis and contrary to what the extremists say it is not deserted but on the contrary, it is very active and welcomes many faithful among the Catholic community of Tunisia."
