From the mountain near Oberhambach, water flows from the mountain streams Zwingbach and Götzenbach into the Hambach.
After a few hundred meters, the water runs into a lake at vacation resort Oberhambach. The water in the lake is held back by a water dam but if the water gets too high the sluices inside the water dam are opened and the water can continue its way through the Hambach further into the valley.
