These two pergolas were designed by local architect John Di Castri (1924-2005). He designed a number of significant buildings in the Greater Victoria area, including the Mosaic Building, the Centennial Square parkade, Crystal Pool, and three buildings at the University of Victoria. The pergolas were originally located in front of the entrance to the Royal BC Museum, but became surplus when the museum did some renovations and they donated the pergolas to Colwood in 2015. They were installed in Herm Williams Park and unveiled in April 2016.
One pergola is straight, while the other is L-shaped. They're made of steel with pyramidal skylights set in the roofs. Angled braces adorn all four sides of each pillar, and a low fence extends along one side of each pergola. Some benches and small tables have been installed inside, and plants are slowly establishing on the side of the western pergola.
