The Clay County Courthouse in Spencer, IA was completed in 1901. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. It is a beautiful red stone building that features a cupola with a dome and a clock. It is the 4th courthouse built.

The Clay County Courthouse waas completed in 1901 and is built of vibrant red sandstone.

It is neoclassical in style and features a large portico and a domed clock tower. I find this feature most interesting because I don't recall any other courthouses with such a wide dome also featuring a clock on the face.

I love the three circle, 'porthole' windows under the portico.

This is the county's 4th courthouse.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1901.
