"Het Huis Teisterbant is een landhuis in het Nederlandse dorp Kerk-Avezaath, provincie Gelderland.
Naamgeving
De naam Teisterbant verwijst naar het middeleeuwse graafschap Teisterbant. Volgens de overlevering zou het huidige landhuis zijn gebouwd op dezelfde plek waar de graven van Teisterbant ooit hun kasteel hadden staan. Hiervoor is echter geen enkel bewijs, en de oudste bodemvondsten gaan niet verder terug dan het jaar 1500.
Geschiedenis
Een document uit 1291 vermeldt een stenen huis Teisterbant waarmee Hubert van Soelen werd beleend. In de 14e eeuw zou op deze locatie het Huis Avesaet zijn gelegen, met Otto van Avesaet als leenman van Gelre. Het huis werd hierdoor ook wel Heer Otten-hofstat genoemd. In 1459 wist Gerrit van Soelen het huis vrij te kopen van de hertog van Gelre.
In 1660 trouwde Dirk van Eck met de barones Van Bodek en Elkan die zichzelf als erfdochter beschouwde van het grafelijke Teisterbant. Sindsdien noemde deze tak van de familie Van Eck zich Van Eck tot Teisterbant.
In 1788 kwam het huis in handen van majoor Johan Bredt. Hij liet een nieuw huis bouwen op de fundamenten van het vorige gebouw. Bredt moest in 1795 als prinsgezinde echter het land ontvluchten, en de patriot J.D. van Leeuwen, die eerder al een spottend gedicht over Bredt en zijn titel ‘heer van Teisterbant’ had geschreven, nam het huis over. Na het overlijden van Van Leeuwen kwam het huis in 1817 in handen van Matthias Johannes Versteegh, die onder andere burgemeester van Zoelen en de Avezathen was en lid van de Provinciale Staten van Gelderland. De familie Versteegh zou het huis tot 1924 in bezit houden, waarna het werd verkocht aan W.J. Van der Linde.
In 1838 vond er een brand plaats die grote schade toebracht aan het huis.
Beschrijving
Het huidige gebouw zal eind 18e/begin 19e eeuw zijn gebouwd. De kelders zijn een restant van de laat-middeleeuwse voorganger van het huis. De muurankers op het achterhuis vermelden het jaartal 1818. De vindvaan dateert uit 1784. Onder het huis is een souterrain aanwezig.
Het bepleisterde huis heeft een middenresaliet. Een hardstenen trap biedt toegang tot de omlijste ingang. Op de afdekking van de risaliet staat een ijzeren hekwerk.
Op het schilddak is een koepeltorentje geplaatst waarin zich een klok bevindt.
De grachten lagen oorspronkelijk dichter bij het huis, maar zijn door Bredt gedempt en op grotere afstand opnieuw uitgegraven."

The House Teisterbant is a country house in the Dutch village of Kerk-Avezaath, province of Gelderland.
Naming
The name Teisterbant refers to the medieval county of Teisterbant. According to tradition, the current manor house is said to have been built on the same spot where the counts of Teisterbant once had their castle. However, there is no evidence for this, and the oldest archaeological finds do not go back further than the year 1500.
History
A document from 1291 mentions a stone house Teisterbant with which Hubert van Soelen was borrowed. In the 14th century, the Huis Avesaet was said to have been located on this location, with Otto van Avesaet as a vassal of Gelre. The house was therefore also called Heer Otten-hofstat. In 1459, Gerrit van Soelen managed to buy the house from the duke of Guelders.
In 1660, Dirk van Eck married the Baroness Van Bodek and Elkan, who considered herself the heir of the Count Teisterbant. Since then, this branch of the Van Eck family called itself Van Eck tot Teisterbant.
In 1788 the house came into the hands of Major Johan Bredt. He had a new house built on the foundations of the previous building. Bredt, however, had to flee the country in 1795 as a pro-principal, and the patriot J.D. van Leeuwen, who had previously written a mocking poem about Bredt and his title 'lord of Teisterbant', took over the house. After Van Leeuwen's death, the house came into the hands of Matthias Johannes Versteegh in 1817, who was, among other things, mayor of Zoelen and the Avezathen and a member of the Provincial Council of Gelderland. The Versteegh family would own the house until 1924, after which it was sold to W.J. Van der Linde.
In 1838 there was a fire that caused extensive damage to the house.
Description
The current building is believed to have been built in the late 18th/early 19th century. The cellars are a remnant of the house's late medieval predecessor. The wall anchors on the back house mention the year 1818. The find vane dates from 1784. There is a basement under the house.
The plastered house has a middle floor. A stone staircase provides access to the framed entrance. There is an iron fence on the cover of the risalite.
A dome turret in which a clock is located is placed on the hipped roof.
The canals were originally closer to the house, but were filled in by Bredt and dug out again at a greater distance."
