Parking in Lot A, follow the wide walkway into the open field area. There will be signs pointing to where the smaller paths lead to that branch off from the main trail. Follow the pointers labeled "Labyrinth" and you will soon arrive shortly thereafter.
This is an oval shaped labyrinth that is about 29 feet wide and about 25 feet high. I'd call it a 6 circuit labyrinth. The pathway in and out is a dirt path covered with wood chips. Native rocks are used as the edges of the pathway. The path is amply wide to comfortably walk without having to watch too closely where to step next. Although the labyrinth is within an open field between two parallel trailways through the park, these trails are far enough away that passers by are not a distraction to one walking the labyrinth.
A labyrinth is a single pathway into its center and the same path is used to exit the labyrinth. The concept for walking a labyrinth is to allow yourself to meditate and release your tensions and worries on the way in. At the center, you can leave those frustrations there in the center. Return on the same path back with a more relaxed attitude of hope and contentment.
The Jacob's Well Natural Area was established to protect the naturally occurring Jacob's Well artesian spring that is feed by the Trinity aquifer. The caves caused by the flow of underground water which feeds the Jacob's Well are claimed to be the second largest underground cave system in Texas. Because of the size, depth and danger associated with this aquifer, only highly trained and certified scuba divers are allowed to monitor the internal cave system. That said, after walking the labyrinth, take time to explore the paths to the location of the Jacob's Well spring, venture to the Natural Area's Interpretive Site (aka: the park's "Welcome Center") to see the Texas historical marker about the artesian springs, view the butterfly garden and circle back to the parking lot. Try going back via a different path you took to begin your visit. There is a lot here to see.
