The Christ the King rose window, also known as the east, rose window, depicts Christ with the various peoples of the world surrounding and adoring Him. It is the most expensive piece of stained glass in the Cathedral, and its location at the front entrance looking out over the city is appropriate for the stately edifice to which He beckons those who see him.
The Stained Glass at Cathedral of St Joseph was installed in December 1947 for $77,700.
Purchased from T.C. Esser Co., Milwaukee, WI
2 Rose windows in transepts cost $3,000 each
8 large windows in nave cost $3,200 each
East Rose window over organ cost $8,500
Work ranged from $13 - $17 per sq. ft.
Self-guided tours can be taken from 9-11:30 AM and 1-5 PM Monday through Friday unless a wedding or funeral is scheduled. Visitors may tour the Cathedral on Saturday and Sunday but these days present more liturgies to work around so visitors are encouraged to check the weekend schedule before arriving.
