The historic Myra Wilson Chapel is on the east edge of Melhaven Cemetery. Erected in 1923, the Chapel is available for services through arrangement with the cemetery committee.
Myra Jane Tuggle Wilson was born in 1860 in the Tuggle Springs Community of Red River County. As an adult, her passion was that the Sulphur Springs City Cemetery recieved the care it needed. The Ladies Cemetery Society of Sulphur Springs had been formed in 1887 and three years after its formation Myra became president. Through her leadership and guidance the cemetery was transformed from what was once described as “a briar patch of stones and burial plots” to the beautiful cemetery we see today. Myra passed away on December 27, 1941, and her funeral was conducted in the chapel that bore her name.
