In 2007 the line of the Greenwich Meridian was marked here on Hither Green Lane as part of the redevelopment of the former Hither Green Hospital site. The marker took the form of lines of raised cobblestones separating eight plaques set into the ground and protected by acrylic. Almost immediately the acrylic suffered from scratching and in 2008, seven of the eight plaques were stolen. By 2012 the last plaque was gone too and the resulting holes had been tarred over. One metal disk remains however, although it is not clear whether or not this was part of the original 2007 installation. The line of cobblestones does appear to be broadly aligned to the Meridian.
