The Nautical Flagpole stands in an unkempt yard of a two-storey brick and timber building that appears to have been used by the Coast Guard and Volunteer Marine Rescue unit of Rockhampton; at least until the white single-storey building was erected diagonally up the street and right beside the Fitzroy River. This flagpole has four angled ropes in addition to the central upper rope.
