Bich Dong Pagoda is an ancient temple built on Truong Yen limestone mountain range in Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province.
This is a historical and cultural relic belonging to Trang An scenic complex Tam Coc - Bich Dong which has been ranked as a special national relic and recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage.
Bich Dong Pagoda was originally named "Bach Ngoc Thach Son Dong" - that is, a beautiful and pure stone pagoda.
Bich Dong Pagoda is a very popular type of cave temple in Ninh Binh.
Bich Dong Pagoda was formed in 1428, early in the Later Le Dynasty with the scale of a small temple on the top of the mountain. In 1705, two monks Tri Kien and Tri The from Nghia Hung district came here. Seeing that Bich Dong mountain has a beautiful terrain and already has a pagoda, the two monks decided to stop, repair the old pagoda by themselves and transform it with 3 levels: Lower, Middle and Upper.
