Two young Armenians named Armen Tertsagian and Mark Balaban became fast friends and decided to venture into business together. Their initial business ventures in Seattle-- a yogurt factory and an Armenian restaurant-- were both ahead of their time. So Mark and Armen packed up and headed for Eastern Washington settling on an apple farm they named Liberty Orchards. They worked together for many years canning apples, dehydrating apples, and making candy from apples and other fruits. They brought other family members into the business and today it is still a family run business. Aplets and Cotlets are known worldwide for delicious treats from the orchards.
