Photos taken on 19 December 2022. The rest stop offers two geocaches, restrooms, a visitor center (which was closed when I visit), dog relief area, grassy fields, picnic areas, and plenty of parking for trucks and cars. NOTE: this waymark is for the southbound rest area. It can only be accessed if you are heading out of Baltimore towards Washington. There is another rest area on the other side of I-95 in the northbound direction from Washington to Baltimore.
The plaque says, "This Travel Information Center is a joint project of the Maryland Department of Transportation, the Maryland Department of Economic and Employment Development, and the Baltimore-Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce. Dedicated on behalf of the Citizens of Maryland, by Governor William Donald Schaefer October 17, 1990"
About the person, "William Donald Schaefer (November 2, 1921 – April 18, 2011) was an American politician who served in public office for 50 years at both the state and local level in Maryland. As a Democrat, he was the 45th mayor of Baltimore from December 1971 to January 1987, the 58th Governor of Maryland from January 21, 1987, to January 18, 1995, and the 32nd Comptroller of Maryland from January 20, 1999, to January 17, 2007. On September 12, 2006, Schaefer was defeated in his reelection bid for a third term as Comptroller by Maryland Delegate Peter Franchot in the Democratic Party primary." -- Source: (
