Ansantawae Lodge is named after Ansantawae, a sachem of the Paugusset Indians from whom the land that is now Milford was purchased. The lodge was organized on October 13, 1859 and is one of the largest and most active masonic lodges in Connecticut. The publish a newsletter, The Trestle Board monthly on their Facebook page Link. They have "Stated Communications" the first and third Friday of every month at 7:45PM.
The main entrance to the lodge is along Depot Street and in a building that was built in 1924. The Broad Street side of the building is four bays wide with building large 2 by 4 pane windows at each bay. The in the middle section projects up from the roof. It has blue five pointed star within an arch. The Masonic emblem is in the center of the star. Above a slanted roof projects out from the building. The roof supports a small square tower which is topped by a flared-out pyramidal roof topped by a weather vane.
The Depot Street side is eight bays deep with main entrances on the third bay and a second entrance on the and seventh bay. On the lower level the fourth bay is bland and the other windows bays have windows. The fifth bay window is tiny by comparison to the rest. The second level has fifth and sixth bay blank and the Masonic emblem above the third bay door.
