Pontefract race course is situated in public parkland and and local nature reserve.

the sculpture is at the entrance road and is next to a wall with the words 'WELCOME TO PONTEFRACT PARK AND RACECOURSE'.

For most of the year the park is open to the public including a walking trail around the race track itself. There is also free parking.

The race course itself holds around 16 race meetings a year between April and October. When race meetings are on access is restricted.
