The Puffer's Pond Dam is a masonry dam which is 32.5 ft high and 112' in length. A 50' section on the west side of the dam is 6" inches lower than rest of the dam so at low water levels water flows down the this side of the dam to maintain the Mill River below. There is also a sluiceway pipe for a second outlet lower down on the east side of the dam which creates a second cascade.
Originally the dam was built to provide water power for the factories in the area. The land was owned by the Puffer family. The factories closed and Steve Puffer became the owner of the dam. Today the dam and the pond is part of the Mill River Recreation Area owned by the Town of Amherst.
