This statue of Right Reverend Boniface Wimmer is located in front of Saint Vincent Basilica, at Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The statue depicts the Archabbot holding a book in his left hand, with his right hand outstretched. A plaque on the base of the statue says:

PAX.
Right Reverend Boniface Wimmer, O.S.B.
Founder of the Benedictine Order in the United States,
Archabbot of St. Vincent,
First President of the American Cassinese Congregation,
Born at Thalmassing, Bavaria, January 14, 1809.
Died at St. Vincent, December 8, 1887.
I.O.G.D.

I.O.G.D. stands for "In Omnibus Glorificetur Deus," which is Latin for "In all things may God be glorified."

Boniface Wimmer, born in 1809 in Bavaria, was ordained a priest in 1831 and became a monk the following year. He wanted to found a monastery in the United States and was invited by the bishop of Pittsburgh to come to that Diocese in 1846. Within five years the new monastery, Saint Vincent's, had nearly one hundred monks living in it, along with a growing college. In 1855 the monastery became an abbey and Father Boniface was named as the first Abbot. He also worked to found many new Benedictine priories and monasteries all over the United States. In 1883 he was given the title, Archabbot. He died in 1887 at Saint Vincent's in Latrobe.
