This wash house is located at the exit of Gençay on the road to Anché, on the banks of the Belle, a small river of 3 km, a tributary of the Clouère.
The name of this washhouse is of unknown origin. No trace in the cadastral documents or hints. However, it is believed that its name comes from the fact that the owner of the site gave his approval (authorization).
The first mention of the construction of a wash house in this place dates from 1837, but the proposal will not be retained. During the expansion of the "little bridge" adjoining the current washhouse in 1840, the municipality had to buy the surrounding land. It was not until 1900 that there was talk of paving the way and installing a pump with a pipe connecting the castle fountain. And it was not until August 31, 1902, that the town acquired the washhouse, which until then had been private and operated against payment, after 4 years of negotiations. The plane trees that line the road are also from this period because they were planted to serve as dryers. For lack of space, it will be enlarged in March 1911.
