This was the site of Plane No. 1 on the roadbed of the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company’s Gravity Railroad. The “Gravity” used a series of inclined planes and steam engines to pull carloads of coal to the top of Moosic Mountain.

Gravity Park
Between 1829 and 1898, this was the site of Plane No. 1 on the roadbed of the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company’s Gravity Railroad. The “Gravity” used a series of inclined planes and steam engines to pull carloads of coal to the top of Moosic Mountain and back down to Honesdale. The monument in the park was erected in 1913.
