Taricha granulosa, or the Roughskinned Newt, is a member of the salamander family. It is commonly found along the Pacific Coast from Alaska to Oregon generally around wetlands.

In t?mt?míx?t?n/Belcarra Regional Park there is a large population around Woodhaven Swamp. However, the newts cross the road and are killed by passing cars. Metro Vancouver Parks has installed these signs to help educate motorists.

Recently Metro Vancouver Parks has created a citizen scientist event to observe the numbers and patterns of Roughskinned Newts crossing the road.

If you are interested in seeing oberservations of the Roughskinned Newts in t?mt?míx?t?n/Belcarra Regional Park head on over to iNaturalist and check it out!
