Dit beeld ’Recht op de wind’ is gemaakt door Alice Helenklaken. Zij is ook de maker van de zeven eieren op dit plein. Beide beelden zijn geplaatst in 2015.

Deze kunstenaar probeert in haar werk altijd een sterke relatie te leggen tussen het werk en de plaats waar het staat. Ook bij dit beeld, van een vrouw die met haar gezicht naar de toren achterover hangt in de wind is dat het geval. De wind was altijd belangrijk op deze plek, het Molenplein.

Op dit plein stond ooit een molen, De Oostermolen. Bij een brand in 1920 is het hele bovenstuk daarvan verwoest. Het onderste deel, dat van steen was is blijven staan tot 2008. Toen is het gesloopt bij de herinrichting en nieuwe vormgeving van dit plein. Dit beeld herinnert aan die molen. Vroeger moest je net als tegenwoordig een vergunning krijgen om een gebouw in de stad neer te zetten. Dat gold dus ook voor de molen. De molenaar moest toestemming vragen aan de Hertog van Gelre om zijn molen te mogen bouwen. Hij kocht eigenlijk toestemming om de wind te mogen gebruiken voor zijn werk. Zoals het toen heette kocht de molenaar het ‘recht op de wind’.

This sculpture ‘Recht op the wind' was made by Alice Helenklaken. She is also the creator of the seven eggs in this square. Both images were posted in 2015.

In her work, this artist always tries to establish a strong relationship between the work and the place where it stands. This is also the case with this image, of a woman leaning back in the wind with her face to the tower. The wind was always important in this place, the Molenplein.

A windmill, De Oostermolen, once stood on this square. The entire top of it was destroyed in a fire in 1920. The lower part, which was made of stone, remained until 2008, when it was demolished during the redevelopment and new design of this square. This statue is reminiscent of that mill. In the past, just like today, you had to get a permit to erect a building in the city. That also applied to the mill. The miller had to ask permission from the Duke of Gelre to build his mill. He actually bought permission to use the wind for his work. As it was then called, the miller bought the 'right to the wind'.
