The
Sheldon Museum of Art holds an impressive art collection at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 12th and, R St, Lincoln, NE 68588. Also of note are the many sculptures outside in front of and west of the museum. This piece,
Birth of Venus was created in 1966 and recast in 1969 by
Reuben Nakian.
While it is obviously nothing like the Botticelli painting of the same name from The Renaissance, this bronze cast is also meant to evoke feeling of the erotic female form. It does seem out of place on the grass outside here at the University of Nebraska but it is still a wonderful piece measuring 10 ft. 11 inches in height.
The Smithsonian website does not have a description of the piece.
