"Near the old town hall, under the Place du Coderc, in the cellars of the former Consulate, two cannons weighing more than two tons each were discovered in 1979 by chance, during renovation work. Property of the City of Périgueux, the Thouin garden quickly welcomed these two bronze cannons including a culverin as well as six iron balls, movable objects from the 16th century classified as historical monuments since February 29, 1980.

The first gun, called Pompadour (3.20 m long and 17 cm in diameter), has a large button breech. On the weapon is represented a shield in bas-relief, where the three towers are recognizable, symbols of the house of Pompadour. Its manufacture dates back to the year 1550.

The second, called from Périgueux – the Couluvrine – (3.86 m long and 15 cm in diameter), has a breech with a drilled button and an ignition hole drilled in a guilloché square. On this weapon is represented a shield, a cross between two fleur-de-lys and flames in bas-relief, where the city gate is recognizable under a pavilion between two towers as well as a fleur-de-lys in chief, symbol from Perigueux. The mention "PERIGUEUX" is written on the barrel. Its manufacture dates back to the year 1588."

Sa fabrication remonte à l'an 1550.

Sa fabrication remonte à l'an 1588. "
