Ladner has been a fishing port for over one hundred years. Mostly involved in the salmon runs along the lower Fraser River, it is just a small harbour at this point, but there are fish processing plants further downstream.

Ladner Harbour is one of the last working fishing ports along the lower Fraser River. During the late 19th century and early 20th century, the Fraser River and the salt waters of the Strait of Georgia had many locations where fishermen would tie up their vessels. Often there was a fish processing plant and companies that supported the industry. However, over the decades the salmon runs have grown smaller and smaller and the fishing seasons have been reduced to a few weeks each year if that.
The industry is slowly disappearing.
Yet, here at Ladner, you can still see commercial fishing vessels and there are still a handful of fish processing plants just downriver.
