Quand on rentre aujourd'hui dans ce qui était pendant 40 ans l'institut Dolomieu avec ses salles de cours et amphithéatre, on doit marcher dans les gravats, au mieux des tessons de bouteilles et des herbes folles.

Ce bâtiment abandonné par l'université de Grenoble depuis 2001 est maintenant devenu le rendez-vous des adolescents grenoblois, des taggeurs, squatteurs ou joueurs de paintball.
When you enter today what was for 40 years the Dolomieu Institute with its classrooms and amphitheater, you have to walk in the rubble, at best shards of bottles and wild grass. This building, abandoned by the University of Grenoble since 2001, has now become a meeting place for Grenoble teenagers, taggers, squatters and paintball players.

Depuis 1er septembre 2017, l'Institut de Géographie Alpine (IGA) a fusionné avec l'Institut d'urbanisme de Grenoble (IUG) pour devenir l'Institut d'Urbanisme et de Géographie Alpine (IUGA). L'adresse est le 14-14bis avenue Marie-Reynoard à Grenoble.
L’institut se situe à la « Cité des territoires » et affiche depuis peu des partenariats avec l'École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Grenoble (ENSAG) située dans le même quartier.
Historique
Création
L’institut de Géographie alpine est fondé en 1907 par Raoul Blanchard, un géographe français, spécialisé dans l’étude des Alpes et de la Géographie du Québec. L’institut est, dès lors installé au centre de la ville de Grenoble, dans les anciens locaux de l'Évêché qui deviendront en 1998 le musée de l'Ancien Évêché.
Bâtiment du Rabot
Dans les années 1960, lors du développement des études universitaires, l’institut déménage sur la colline de la Bastille, plus précisément au Rabot, au 17 rue Maurice-Gignoux, dans un batiment neuf adjacent à celui de l’Institut Dolomieu (géologie).
Puis en 2001, les bâtiments de l’institut étant jugés trop vétustes et en vue d’un rapprochement entre la géographie et l’aménagement / urbanisme, l’institut déménage dans de nouveaux locaux à la Cité des territoires.
Le bâtiment du Rabot a été acheté par un promoteur privé à la suite d'un appel d'offres de l'État en 2011. Le 28 janvier 2013, l'immeuble est déclaré en état d'abandon manifeste par le Conseil municipal : poubelles incendiées, débris de verre, tags, et squats successifs, devenant un lieu de non-droit et libre d'accès.
Institute of Alpine Geography
Since September 1, 2017, the Institute of Alpine Geography (IGA) has merged with the Institute of Urban Planning of Grenoble (IUG) to become the Institute of Urban Planning and Alpine Geography (IUGA). The address is 14-14bis avenue Marie-Reynoard in Grenoble.

History
Creation
The Institute of Alpine Geography was founded in 1907 by Raoul Blanchard, a French geographer who specialized in the study of the Alps and the geography of Quebec. The institute is, from then on, located in the center of Grenoble, in the former premises of the Bishopric, which will become in 1998 the museum of the Old Bishopric.
The Rabot building
In the 1960's, during the development of university studies, the institute moved to the hill of Bastille, more precisely to the Rabot, at 17 rue Maurice-Gignoux, in a new building adjacent to the Institut Dolomieu (geology).
Then in 2001, the institute's buildings being considered too dilapidated and with a view to bringing together geography and urban planning, the institute moved to new premises in the Cité des territoires.
The Rabot building was purchased by a private developer following a call for tenders by the State in 2011. On January 28, 2013, the building was declared in a state of manifest abandonment by the City Council: burned garbage cans, broken glass, tags, and successive squats, becoming a lawless, free-for-all.
