The B9134 road runs between the Angus towns of Forfar and Brechin, and was the old route between the towns, being replaced by the A94 (now A90) that runs to the north along the Strathmore in the valley of the River South Esk. The B9134 crosses hilly ground and just east of the village of Aberlemno it crosses the northern flank of Angus Hill, a low hill of only 138 metres at its summit, but with a steep drop northwards down to the river valley below.
There has always been a lay-by near the road summit with its view northwards over Strathmore to the Braes of Angus, the foothills of the Grampian Mountains, but a sign depicting the view has been placed here recently.
The sign has a drawn view of the hills, the most prominent are listed with the distance in miles stated, as well a information on some of them. There is also information on the surrounding area, including the River South Esk, Aberlemno, and wildlife to be found.
