The anchor is part of a memorial to seafarers dedicated in June 1999 which consists of a plaque on a rock next to a nautical mast. The plaque reads:
"THIS PARK IS DEDICATED TO OUR SEAFARERS,
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
THOSE WHOSE LIVES HAVE BEEN LOST.
"ETERNAL FATHER, STRONG TO SAVE
WHOSE ARM DOTH BIND THE RESTLESS WAVE,...
O HEAR US WHEN WE CRY TO THEE
FOR THOSE IN PERIL ON THE SEA."
FROM THE NAVY HYMN
WILLIAM WHITING, 1860
JUNE 13, 1999"
